Under the guidance of Steve Taylor, it has to be said that the Squint label is turning into a place of real quality. This sampler is an excellent introduction to the label and it's all excellent! When it comes to Mr Taylor's shrewd signing of bands, true it's varied but where else would you find a roster as different as their initial three signings? So you get Burlap To Cashmere ('Basic Instructions', 'Digee Dime'), Sixpence None The Richer ( a live 'Kiss Me, 'Love') and ska band Insyderz ("He Has Made Me Glad', 'Awesome God'). But then you get the added bonus of new signings Chevelle and Waterdeep. Chevelle are three brothers whose Steve Albini produced debut has already been turning heads - just check out 'Mia' and 'Point #1' to see why! The latest additions to the roster are the vibey, mysteriously wonderful Waterdeep whose 'Go Find John' hints at an amazing debut album to be released later in the year. Squint are one fine label because they are the only label in Christendom that have avoided signing any less than amazing acts. Listen to this, feel the width and check the quality.
