Tommy Tenney's million-selling book The God Chasers provides the inspiration for this disappointing and lacklustre album of worship songs. While his recent tome may have struck a chord with the spiritual lives of many, encouraging a closer walk with God, it would appear it has not inspired much creativity in worship. The album trudges along through familiar territory and there is not enough variety on offer to hold your attention. Too many syrupy arrangements, too few memorable lyrics; too much monotony and too little joy. Even the vocals from Nashville stalwarts Scott Krippayne and Lisa Beville can't lift the gloom and you spend half the album praying that you've reached the last track. That is, until you reach the last track "Into The Presence Of Jesus", when out of the ennui unexpectedly a solo violin drifts in and all of a sudden the presence of God becomes almost tangible. The instruments are faded out too quickly however and you're left wishing you could enjoy that glimpse of Heaven a little bit longer. So, friends, save yourself an hour, skip to track 12, hit the replay button and bask in the glory-I'm sure Mr. Tenney would approve.
