Ironically, despite this being the most "genuine" of the three albums associated with the movie, with music plucked from the original motion picture soundtrack, it's probably of the least interest, unless you're enamoured solely with the music of pop luminaries (of which there are a sprinkling on this set). Whitney Houston and Marian Carey do a rather overblown duet. "When You Believe". American R&B hit-makers Boyz II Men and K-CI & Jo Jo and CCM's very own Amy Grant are also here. The original songs by Stephen Schwartz are a bit too Hollywood for my taste, and though the images in the movie's memorable sequence when Moses has the showdown with the occult priests are stunning. "Playing With The Big Boys " - performed here by actor Steve Martin - isn't going to make much of an impact away from the movie. As usual with soundtrack albums, there's more that is souvenir-of-a-movie than outstanding-audio-entertainment.
