This inspirational TV show has really gone big time in the USA though it's only been launched quietly in Britain. Consequently, this soundtrack album isn't likely to generate huge excitement from a product recognition perspective. So what's the music like? Well, for a telly series where angels intervene in human affairs (in a sort of aspiritual, not quite Biblical, fashion) you'd expect a pile of inspirational style music and that's exactly what you get. Although there are some CCM stars featured here - Amy Grant, Jaci Velasquez - you also get some bizarre appearances like Celine Dion finally sounding soulful whilst working with God's Property and a couple of songs from country singer Wynonna. Bob Dylan, Shawn Colvin and Deana Carter pop in and do their stuff but like the angelic theology of the series, it's all very pleasant but watered down. There's even a cover version of that old AOR chestnut, Bad English's ballad "When I See You Smile". The material is all very "just believe in hope/love/life/someone, etc and everything will be alright". Inspirational but barely involving God and I'm sure a real tug at the heart within the context of the series. As a separate CD, the sugar content here would have your dentist falling on his drill!
