First impressions always make an impact, and getting people to see something in a different light can prove a difficult job. The sleeve has a church tower surrounded by trees next to a mill and river with the word "hymns" in italics. So with this in mind I put the CD on. Although some of the arrangements lack development, in that they have always been sung that way and the majority have an organ backing, I found the acappella numbers reminded me of my days in a youth choir, and the finale was "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" which sticks out above the rest. The songs cover a spectrum of generations from the 1700's to the 1990's, and all the songs are scripturally based. This CD should appeal to those who already know these hymns and to those who are new to faith who have not grown up listening to these hymns and want to learn them.
