A 15-song compilation with tracks carefully selected from such albums as Sara Groves' 'Alright Here', Kathryn Scott's 'Satisfy', Women Of Faith's 'Bring Back The Joy', Sheila Walsh's 'All That Really Matters', Kathy Troccoli's 'Comfort' and Darlene Zschech's 'Shout To The Lord 2'. The quality of the songs, arrangements and production is spot on. It has the potential to be a pleasant listening experience, and perhaps will indeed allow the busy women it's aimed at "a moment of peace and rest." There will be women who'd be thrilled to receive this as a thoughtful gift. I have no doubt of that. However, I have some theological difficulties with this. First, I'm not quite sure that worship songs should be used as soothing muzak - I don't want to give the impression that is what I think of this particular CD, it's too good for that label, but there is an implication of these songs being potentially relaxing candyfloss for some downtime. I also have difficulties (as a feminist) with some of the lyrics and the assumptions behind them. I accept that I am simply not in the same place theologically as others. But these songs do not relate to my situation, and therefore the claim of being for "today's woman" is a little hollow. Finally, the CD says "discover what happens when women worship." Well, the world changes, but not everyone likes it when it does!
