The second in the series of 'Worship Moments' brings another 50 instrumental versions of well known worship songs on theww CDs. To be honest, I'm always a bit sceptical that these kinds of CDs, where no one bar the producers and writers are credited and little other information is given, are basically going to turn out to be nothing more than a couple of hours of cheesy muzak, but I have to say that by and large this collection does exactly what it says on the metaphorical tin. There's an interesting spread of songs, across a broad rage of styles, from older (like Dave Bilborough's "Abba Father") to more recent (such as Tim Hughes' "When All Around Is Fading") and quite a few stops in between. There is also a commendable variation in lead instruments, from the usual piano, flute and guitar to cello, violin and clarinet and plenty of different accompaniments. It's perhaps a shame that it will often end up background music but it is certainly relaxing listening. If nothing else, it's worth investigating just to see what is done with Godfrey Birtill's normally foot-stomping "God So Loved This Whole World" and Phil Johnston's equally lively "Jesus Is The Name We Honour". One final thought. Kingsway think it appropriate to put a note on their sleeve talking about the "detrimental effect" to the "ministry of the artist" by copying the album. Fair enough though it begs the question about the detrimental effect of putting compilations together like this one that don't event credit the artists.
