Tooth & Nail have always been one of my favourite Christian labels, championing the alternative across the board from thrash to ska to punk to electronica and whatever. This latest sampler kicks off with Underoath, outstanding hard rock from a band who now, of course, have become mainstream hitmakers. There are 19 tracks here, some by familiar names and some by promising newcomers. My favourites here include "Move", a mosh pit classic from Thousand Foot Krutch, another band on the verge of major success after stints sharing the stage with such luminaries as the Foo Fighters and Jimmy Eat World. Starflyer 59 are another of T&N's best, here they bring us the mellow, Daniel Amos-influenced "A Lists Go On". Now one of the label's veterans, they continue to produce fine albums of melancholic rock. Meanwhile the new guys include the surprisingly mature rock of Anberlin, electronica from Discover America and happy American punk rock from Hawk Nelson. Another promising taster from a visionary label.
