His debut on Reach Records, this seven-track mini album from the Georgia-based rapper is an assured affair with bold lyrics delivered in no-messing style with a supremely inventive electronic backing which exudes confidence. WHATUPRG has a knack for letting the listener hear his inner thoughts with the likes of the opener "Yellow Paint" being about his desire for his lover whilst "Lil Holy" and "Rose Gold" betray a vulnerability amidst all the rhyming bravado to suggest that our man hasn't got everything figured out yet. WHATUPRG occasionally namedrops God to give an overriding spiritual purpose to his musings whilst earthly topics like toxic love relationships dominate in "Exit 104". A brief burst of Spanish to reflect the rapper's Mexican roots is a highlight in "Wesside" and, whilst the inclusion of numerous voicemails from friends praising the rapper in the closing track "Lovely" feels a bit self-congratulatory, this is a considered piece of work which just feels genuine.
