Comment: i don't agree with abortion in most circumstances, but although i agree with much of what was said in your article, there was something i feel you missed out on. the point was made about girls being able to confide in their parents, but some children feel unable to because their lives may be at risk of physical or mental harm caused to them by their parents. some girls may be afraid of their parents and would rather kill their unborn babes or even themselves if they fear a violently angry reaction. some girls from emotionally abusive homes may be threatened with being disowned, or even thrown out of their homes. if you're too young to work full-time and live on your own you either risk social care or being forced into street living and all the evils that go with it (eg- vice, including trafficking, or being "pimped") and hard drugs. i realise that these girls are a minority in UK, but children from a wide range of cultures and faiths could experience this. abortion is a terrible thing to live with, but perhaps it is within our churches that alternative support could be offered to pregnant young girls who really DO live in fear of confiding in those close to them.
