Comment: Just to pick up on the various comments regarding violence, I have to defend the BBFC in this case. With the exception of the horrific scars on Harvey Dent, there is no blood and gore onscreen at all, so I would defend the rating (despite the fact that 12A is a stupid rating as parents foolishly now think it means PG - the mandatory 12 ought to be reinstated and would have been fine for this film, as it would have prevented young children from seeing it). Compare this with the Tim Burton's Batman films in 1989 and 1992 respectively, which was also 12 (back when 12 was mandatory), and the blood and gore levels in those are far worse - as well as morally far more dubious (Michael Keaton's Batman had no problem with killing the Joker or other criminals). Much of the impact of The Dark Knight comes from the sound effects and dark thematic material, and given the strong feelings it has aroused, it is all the more effective for it. To be honest, my biggest problem with the film had nothing to do with violence but the way it seemed to endorse lying as a means to an end.
