Comment: The Church of England prides itself on its breadth the fact that there is something for everyone. This could not be further from the truth. I recenty went through the discernment process for 18 months and having passed the selection process was told by the Ministry Division in London i could not train for Minisrty as i worked shifts. My shift pattern allowed for 16-19 days off per calendar month, but prevents me from attending a Theological College every week so in true Cof E tyle they just shut the door. The ironic thing is that if you live in europe you can train on an open university course but not in good old England. It just goes to show how the C of E precludes, discriminates against and has no structure with in its training system for people who work shifts. It is becoming out of date and stuck in the past. It needs to be more innovative and forward thinking in bringing people to serve and God. And they wonder why it is in such serious decline. Thank God for people like Pastor Paul Scanlon. Here is a man who is connecting with people from all walks of life.
