Comment: Michaela talks about real issues in a real way, almost comparable to lilly allen in terms of the vocals in some of the songs, in others it is just free flowing poetry. I bought her album as she is definately original in her unique style, and lyrics. Her lyrics are refreshing, deep and thought provoking but not something you can fully digest on first hearing-well that's what i found! i think the comment about her ''accusing the world of giving her a bad time ''cos she's black'' is completely missing the point of her music. Her album is very mixed in terms of content and in the song refferred to she is commenting on the stereotypical portrayal of black individuals within the media ie many black actors are often hired to play negative roles within films/tv. An example of this is the point she makes about black people in British soap operas who are typically thugs, badies criminals, sidelined, or with awfully misinformed accents thus suggesting that all or most black people fall only within these very misguided stereotypes which is probably the same as saying all white females are like Vicky Pollard from Little Britain...which is riddiculous and has the potential to be very offensive. But in the same songs she does also highlight that some black people also portray themselves like this on certain music videos for example. The overall point is that her songs point towards real love..ie God's love, acceptance, rejection, life, troubles, temptations etc all mixed in with her experience of life as a christian, (and not). it's not a simple album that just plays pretty music or has the right 'religious buzz words' but actually challenges the superficial...Barbie represents a superficial image of idealised beauty and perfection, Michaela challenges this ideal on all levels-- it's not for the faint-hearted lol:)
