Comment:	I have memories in my youth in the 1950's of going in a coach with the young of our parish in Wiltshire, to festivals held annually in the grounds of the Abbey. It must have been an event for the whole of the wessex area, as thousands gathered there and we had an innocent day of fun playing games and generally socialising, but also assembling for a massive service of praise, with many hymns. I suppose I must have attended three or four of these festivals from the age of 11 which was in 1955. I note there are no references to these festivals on the internet, and I would also like to add that these festivals which I believe were held on the last weekend of June were way before the days of the Glastonbury festivals as we know them today.
