I had the honor to have been a part of the Jesus Movement and the HGRS company during Charles's time with Redeemer Temple. He was a Blessing and will never be forgotten. He gave it his all. Amazing Grace.

Thanks so much indeed, Tony, for remembering Charles! He was one of my best friends and had a huge impact on my life in my early days of pastoral ministry in rural NW Kansas. He performed at the grand opening of "The Melting Pot," our coffee-house ministry in Colby, where he and Judy even helped us with the decor. He performed there many times during its 5-year run and later joined me in York, PA, during the very early days of our pastoral ministry there--performing and ministering in worship services, special meetings, and in "The Melting Pot," our coffee house in York (which ran for 12 years). Through him, I'd met Scott Hinkle in Kansas, and Scott served as my assistant pastor for several months at Yorktowne Chapel. Charles and Judy, genuninely "cool," were always on the cutting edge of contemporary ministry but never wavered from their rock-solid commitment to the word of God and the gospel of Jesus Christ. They influenced everything from my hair-style in the early 1970's to the manner in which we conducted our coffee house and television ministries! I'll never forget Charles, and I just saw Judy for the first time in decades at a convention last year in Denver, CO. She, of course, is still going full-steam-ahead in the ministry she and Charles founded in Hollywood, for years now at the side of her second husband Ron Radachy (whom I finally got to meet last year in Denver). What a reunion we'll all have in heaven!

On March 24,1970 Charles led me to Jesus in a root beer stand parking lot in Kansas. I was a Jewish heroin addict and in his car has a radical encounter with Jesus Christ. I had the privilege of being discipled by him and serving with him on and off until his "homegoing." He left a great legacy in the life of many and I am eternally grateful for the impartation I received through him. He was my dear friend, older brother and father in the Lord.

I loved Charles! My sister, Lynda Wilson, had already been in Denver helping out with the "Holy Ghost Repair Service" coffee house and "The Paraclete" bookstore.
After I graduated from high school in Ohio in 1972 my sister asked me to move out to Denver with her. I did and as we were walking down Colfax Avenue my sister led me to the Lord. Right down the street from Charles & Judy's ministry. I started working there in the office and helping on the weekends in coffeehouse and street witnessing. Charles was like a real live cartoon! I still have a video of him at a birthday party Judy had for him. My sister and I lived with them for a short time when their daughter, Melissa was born. Once you met Charles you could never forget him. He was full of the love of Jesus and He LOVED people! I really miss him ....even now....thinking about him....getting teary-eyed. My sister is in heaven now, too, so they both I'm sure have had a wonderful reunion! Thank you for talking about Charles and bringing up the old Jesus People Revival days!!! God Bless You!

My brother Mark commented on Charles McPheeters, and I thought I'd put in my two cents. When I was attending Redeemer Temple, I got invited to a birthday party for someone who attended the church, and Charles was there at the party. This was probably summer of 1972, or 1973. I was a teenager then, probably fifteen or sixteen. Charles took the time to talk with me briefly. I was kind of impressed, as he really did move in the circles of rock musicians and jetsetters. I remember that at the old Redeemer Temple Charles was the youth pastor. On Friday nights there would be a youth service. The Archers were there one night, but one service I'll probably always remember, is the one where a British evangelist, and faith healer was speaking. They had revival services all that week, and on Friday night the regular crowd of High Schoolers, and College people were in attendance as well as the other people who had attended the services all week. The church was so full, I'm surprised the fire marshall didn't come around! People were sitting in the aisles, and on the podium. There must've been a thousand people there in a building designed for 800. Charles would sometimes come out to sing a special number during the services at Redeemer, and I always remember how he would swing that acoustic guitar around like Johnny Cash to play it. That was after he would make some introductory that were often quite funny, and would have us laughing. He really did live a full life in the short time he was on earth.

Charles McPheeters was an entertainer, no question, but also very energetic as shown by his various efforts: concerts, a newspaper, a street mission, church work. I think it was 1974, New Years Eve, when I'd traveled to Anaheim for the holiday ... and there was McPheeters' name in the marquee of Ralph Wilkerson's mega church across from Disneyland -- Melodyland was the name, I think. He made Redeemer Temple interesting for a junior higher.

I met Charles as apatient in his las months of life. I also got to know his wife a little too. But his kids were the most amazing of all. Charles had a strong faith in God. Nut more than that he lived his live so devoted yo winning others to Christ. He treated everone with care and compaasion. I will never forget my last conversation with his children. His son was four ( I think) and he came running down the hall to greet me and jumped in my arms aas I arrived to work. His son told me that Keith greed died and weny to heaven and that is where is daddy was Charls omact in my life and the others he touched will always be rememberd.

I met Charles in 1980 at a High School Youth Ministry camp near Palm Springs California. He was and will be remembered by me as a man who called things the way they are....Pure Relaity.....Nothing more....and nothing less. I was very impressed by his musical talent. Through his musical style,he helped me to develop a style of music that aided me in my musical career.
