A groundbreaking album that fuses British gospel music and JAZZ HAS been released on

29th November. 'Jazz In The Sanctuary: Spirit Of The Nation' features "the stylistic breadth of jazz from acoustic trio to street R&B, to 12-bar Chicago blues with bebop." Featured gospel artists include the Wood Green Gospel Choir, Carla Hayes, Clive Brown & The Shekinah Singers, Hutchinson & Gayle and Assurance while amongst the well known jazz instrumentalists participating are Wayne Ellington, Ben Castle and Mario Castronari.

The project, produced by London-based Canopy Music, also features Sandra Escoffery both as a soloist and with her much loved group the Escoffery Sisters. In September 1999 the British gospel scene was shocked to learn of the death of Sandra on a flight from Singapore to London. Said the project's executive producer Mark Ingleby, "The track 'Changes' is our tribute, as a gospel community, to Sandra. For the 102 musicians, singers, songwriters and producers on this project who have crossed a Jordan for British Gospel Music, we will honour both her memory and our future, by maintaining and continuing to raise up this new community spirit of shared endeavour."
