UK gospel singer Freddie Kofi receives prestigious NESTA award.

MIDLANDS-based gospel singer/songwriter and producer Freddie Kofi has won a two year fellowship of nearly £75,000 from NESTA (the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts). The award will enable Kofi to embark on a US-based research project on contemporary gospel music. Said Kofi, "African American gospel is an inspiration to me, an inheritance, but it's not my experience. We all share the same beliefs but each of our struggles is unique. I've grown up in England and that's my context." CR
