IN THE LIGHT of controversies surrounding "wholesome, though not necessarily Christian" albums being sold at American Christian bookshops, America's Gospel Music Association (GMA) have issued a definition of Christian music. The definition emerges after an announced plan to re-evaluate its criteria for the CCM industry's Dove Awards and for placement on gospel music charts. The definition reads, "Gospel music is music in any style whose lyric is: substantially based upon historically orthodox Christian truth contained in or derived from the Holy Bible; and/or an expression of worship of God or praise for his works; and/or testimony of relationship with God through Christ; and/or obviously prompted and informed by a Christian worldview." CR
