IN A SHOCK announcement Greenbelt Festival, now in its 25th year, is to finish in its current open-air festival form in 1998 and will in future enter into a creative relationship with the Spring Harvest Bible weeks. The precise nature of the Greenbelt/Spring Harvest pact will be announced at 1998's Greenbelt Festival at Deene Park, Northants, on 28-31 August. Said Greenbelt's Andy Thornton, "We have been running the same legendary format for 25 years and now is the time to reassess. Greenbelt directors have been doing some hard thinking about how the festival must adapt to changing times. We have concluded our thinking with a decision to end the festival as we know it and begin again with a completely new approach in 1999 and onwards." A feature covering the history of Greenbelt begins on page 18. CR
