Various churches to work on worship songbook

THE METHODIST church, working with Greenbelt, Christian Aid, the United Reformed Church, Catholic Youth Services, the Church of England, CAFOD and the Baptist Union of Great Britain are compiling a major worship songbook for publication in 1999. Unusually, the Church is working ecumenically drawing together material from England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales to create a unique, challenging and worship-changing songbook to take Christian communities into the new millennium. The project to be called Songs For The New Millennium was launched on April 14th at The Greenhouse, London. Among those speaking were Garth Hewitt (Greenbelt), Rev Mark Wakelin (the Methodist Association of Youth Clubs), Julian Filochowski (Director, CAFOD), Anne Richards (Songs For The New Millennium Project Co-ordinator) and Jo Boyce (Catholic Youth Services).

During 1997 there will be regional seminars and songwriting workshops where musicians, lyricists, poets, worship leaders and ministers will be able to participate in the Songs For The New Millennium project. The finished songbook will be published by CMJ Publishing.
