Tonex scores major hit with 'Out The Box' live project.

AFTER TWO critically acclaimed but not commercially successful albums 'Pronounced Toe-nay' and '02' R&B gospel man Tonex has returned with a major hit album. 'Out The Box' by Tonex & The Peculiar People is a double album recorded live in Tonex's San Diego hometown and is this week number one in Billboard's Top Gospel Albums chart and number five in the Top Christian Albums chart. The project includes guest appearances by Yolanda Adams, Applejaxx, Sheila E and Kirk Franklin. There will be a DVD release of 'Out The Box' in July. On it Tonex is backed by a 10 piece band, four dancers, a 16 voice ensemble and a 40 voice choir.

Tonex told Billboard, "It took a lot of pre-production and a lot of post-production to make that happen. The whole process literally took about nine months to put together just to get to the point of recording it. After that the challenge was taking over 130 tracks and mixing them. I like to have control over every instrument and every situation. It was more like mixing a movie score than it was just your conventional CD." CR
