Two bands, two different countries, united by their faith and love of hardcore punk. First up are Scotland's 100 Philistine Foreskins who, in view of their attention-grabbing name and much enjoyed performance at this year's Greenbelt, will probably get most of the attention. Hailing from West Lothian, Ian, Hef and Mysterious Doogsie serve up a bass-heavy cacophony with vocals from a deranged Frankie Boyle soundalike. Four quick blasts (due to their "pathologically low attention spans") that put their history as members of the Exploited and Voice Of The Mysterons to interesting and strangely captivating use. Filling the other seven tracks on the disc are Hamburg's Preacher. The German trio are fast, noisy and a little uncouth in true punk style. Again the songs are short, but a bit more conventionally structured than 100PF. Five are sung in their native German, while the other two are in heavily accented English. While this may detract from your understanding, you still get a sense of what they are trying to get across. Neither band will be bothering the mainstream anytime soon, but their punk ethos will be very happy with that situation.

100PF ~ “Keep Yer Pants On” is a rant about celibacy and
self control. Whilst “A Little Knowledge” asks you to
consider the other side of an argument. It’s too easy to
take the popular point of view and not search out your own
answers.
Zekes Old Bones is my favourite with its carefully crafted
lyrics “All you skeletons/Rise up dance now/Fleshless
framework/Shake your thing now/Rattle rhythm - bone
drum/Stomp feet - clack hands/Corpus animus/Curse sleep,
stand!”
After that we have the glorious instrumental jig of “We
Lament ”.
