What bands going into a recording studio for the first time need to understand is that however good the engineer and the gear being used (and Ken Smith at Croydon's Folly's End does a sterling job here), prior to the recording someone needs to go through the band's material and knock it into shape to bring musical coherence to any resulting album. Take this release. The one really outstanding track is the opener where bassist Mark offers a hugely catchy rocker "God Is Huge" which could almost be the sister song to the equally marvellous and equally theologically moronic "The Devil Is Bad" by The Ws. But after that scorching intro, 'This Is My Mountain' wanders all over the place. The two girls in the group have voices that, quite honestly, don't fit the rock genre while the band, musically competent though they clearly are, move between pop funk, worship ballads and full tilt rockers in an enthusiastic but utterly unfocussed way. Consequently, the album as a whole simply doesn't work.
