Husband and wife duos are never in short supply in CCM and to a list that includes Rob & Gilly, Billy & Sarah, Nicholas et al, here's a new addition - the rap duo Al -SWIFT (A1 meaning top quality and the acronym stands for Salvation Will Indeed Feel Terrific). Although their publicity people have tried to pass them off as gangsta-style rappers, in reality their style is less aggressive and more radio friendly than the average gansgsta rap outfit. Their "chant-along" choruses lend themselves well to audience participation (always a plus in rap) and their lyrics are full of references to other rap hits - especially at the end of "Can't Bow The Knee", where they manage to squeeze in snippets from "Rapper's Delight", Kurtis Blow's "The Breaks" and Newcleus' "Jam On It" (makes me feel old just thinking about it). Other tracks, like "The 40, The Gat And The Blunt" promise much but don't really deliver. Not a bad album; in fact quite a good one, but more likely to appeal to their target audience's younger brothers and sisters than to the target audience itself.
