Ferris beats the strings of his acoustic with passion and accuracy on the rhythmic opener "Moth To A Flame". It has a Brian Houston essence about it in that it's an honest, confessional song. This young man from Northern Ireland has got a good way with lyrics, the second track, "Hollow Wooden Instruments", is a clever allegory of us as vessels for the Lord to fill, as well as describing the instruments that populate this record. "Even Now" is the best lyric and made me stop and think. Ferris' voice is good enough, not particularly memorable, but he hits the notes and conveys a sense of youthful energy and conviction. "Here's To You" has a melody that would suit many of the 'emo' acts that are holding a large share of the charts in the States and popular with the youth here in the UK. I would like to know what this track would sound like with a full band. This is a question that hangs over this whole five-song EP. Although not of bad quality, the arrangements here are sparse and lack texture. A band would do a lot to enhance these good songs.
