Any compilation pulled from five albums is bound to be a highly subjective affair but I can't help feeling this set, even though it contains some wonderful music and at least one stone classic ("In The Holy Name Of Jesus"), could have been much, much better. The problem pivots around six songs from Al's first flawed all-gospel album for Myrrh 'The Lord Will Make A Way' yet only one from the album many people, me included, consider his best ever gospel outing 'Precious Lord'. If you enjoy the Memphis Reverend's idiosyncratic versions of old gospel warhorses like "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Amazing Grace" and his own rather ragged Memphis soul gospel songs that dazzling voice works its octave-leaping magic.
