Alison is of course THE fiddle player in country but I must confess to knowing nothing about the Cox Family. After listening to some of the best music I have ever heard, boy am I keen to learn more! Although produced by Alison, this is not really a bluegrass album as such, it has piano, steel, even some drums. It can really be described as old time quartet/gospel music of the highest order. With several members of the Cox Family being featured predominantly, it is as much their album as Alison's, but that is how I think she wanted it. I know she enthuses over the Cox Family and on the evidence of this magnificent album it is easy to see why. For me the lead singing of Suzanne Cox is the high point. I don't know how many times I've heard the old standard "I'd Rather Have Jesus", but I honestly can't think when I've heard anything more beautiful than the tone of Suzanne's vocal on this. Having read a review describing it as "just about the best gospel album ever" I thought that will take a lot of living up to, but the whole album is a work of beauty. My album of the year without a doubt. Absolutely marvellous! Wonderful!
