As One are a multi-racial, multi-denominational choir based in Hitchin who on the 7th October 2006 went to Reading's Globe Theatre for a concert, all proceeds going to the charity Christian Community Action. CCA are doing a sterling work in providing furniture and goods for hundreds of in need households and also liaise with local agencies to get work placements for ex-offenders and recovering addicts. Taking the opportunity to raise more funds CCA brought in the vastly experienced recording engineer Paul Burton to record the concert and this album shows the choir to be a well-rehearsed ensemble with a pretty decent band of accompanists. None of the lead vocalists strike one as being outstanding and although it was impressive that As One went for largely original material, much of it written by the choir, songs too aren't very memorable and stay largely in the stylized stream of modern worship. But this is still a thoroughly pleasant demonstration out what zeal and rehearsal can achieve.
