For five years Brian and Kevin helped run the Live On Planet Earth alternative worship event in Cranbrook, Kent. Brian Draper is also the editor of Third Way magazine and a lecturer in Contemporary Culture at the London Institute For Christianity. The slim volume suggests that you may be able to "use this book to equip you with the skills and tools that can be used, in the power of Holy Spirit, to shape an authentic expression of worship for your particular situation." But though I found the accounts of Live On Planet Earth's search to find "something more awe-inspiring, more sensual, more spiritual" in their worship fascinating, few of their ideas resonated with me while some of them - asking people to walk over a tray of stones barefoot followed by a length of cottonwool - to be mildly preposterous. But there's the rub. Having embraced the idea, as I have, that worship must move beyond the stifling restrictions of the hymn-prayer-hymn sandwich and the stylised uniformity of some charismatic praise, I recognise I will have to find my own solutions to locate genuine post-modern worship and books like this are of limited value.
