This is the third album from a band who are billed as Germany’s most popular rock outfit. The album is dominated by driving pop rock tunes with hints of Yfriday and touches of All Star United. On the whole, the tracks seem to lack the hooks to really get the hairs on the back of my neck standing on end. Consequently, the songs leave my head as quickly as they entered it. The melody lines on tracks like “Control” and “New Time” wander aimlessly without ever really getting anywhere. The band are clearly at their best on tracks like the infectious “Someone Else” and the edgy opener “Eversince”. I’ve played the former so much that it just has to be a radio hit. Keys and Hammond are used to good effect, particularly in “Superstar” which includes the line “A-Hoooo-Hooooooo” which has to be in contention with Matt Redman’s “Na, na, na, na, na, na! Hey!” for the title of “most inspired lyric ever”. Overall, though, this album is let down by tracks like the truly awful “Up To You” which features some extremely amateurish female singers and an extremely cheesy “American High School choir-type” vocal to boot. Glimpses of brilliance, but average at best, I’m afraid.
