Recently back from a tour which included a support slot with Roy Ayers and boasting a CV which includes working with the likes of Annie Lennox and Suggs, Ciyo’s latest - his fifth album - is already getting a fair amount of interest from radio stations up and down the UK. It’s not hard to see why, as this is quality soul jazz which will take you instantly back to what may seem a dim and distant summer. All bar one track (an effortlessly jazzy take on soul classic “Every Kinda People” with Ciyo shining on acoustic guitar a la George Benson, one of his influences along with Wes Montgomery) are self-penned, leaving an impression that we’re going to be seeing a lot more of Ciyo, if there’s any justice in this world.
