This Nashville-based 18 year old grew up singing Southern gospel with her family's group and the singer's confidence no doubt owes a great deal to that apprenticeship. For her first solo outing, Cortni preferred the R&B pop style of one hero Beyonce and spiritual impact of another, Kirk Franklin. Teaming with producer Tre Corley, this pop record covers all corners from ballads to upbeat catchy pop, all infused with a positive message and Cortni's drop dead gorgeous smile. And did I mention talent? Cortni has it pouring out her pores! From a diatribe against falling for superficial hunky boyfriends to a title track which encourages an attitude of living for Heaven but remembering to have fun and enjoy the Christian life right now, Cortni doesn't put a foot wrong. The prayerful "Change Me" is a gorgeous ballad whilst "Ruin Me" is trancey dancey pop. There is plenty of versatility here including a cover version of Russ Taff's "Walls Of Glass" which has a fab '70s vibe to it. Ultimately in a world where pop music is so often vacuous nonsense, it makes a change to find top vocal performances and strong messages blending together with surprisingly good results.
