After two albums with Credential, Zach Zegan's Southern Californian rockers have been snapped up by Forefront and this self-titled release is an interesting way to kick off the new partnership. There are only four new tracks here; the other six are new versions of songs from their two earlier projects, in particular the previous album 'Tension' which has contributed half of 'Dizmas'. However, rather than being a step back, the higher standard of production and the quality of the previously unheard songs point forward to an exciting future. The opener is particularly well crafted, evoking memories of Lifehouse at their best, and "Worth Fighting For" builds to a powerful chorus with one of the catchiest hooks I've heard in a while. Of the older songs, "Redemption, Passion, Glory" has gained energy in the three years since we first heard it, and "Play It Safe" still entices you to lean on the repeat button. With the usual strong vocals, solid musicianship and thought provoking lyrics, 'Dizmas' is certainly a great introduction to the band and even if you already have many of the tracks, 'Dizmas' is worth getting hold of as a progress report and to whet the appetite for the next one.
