Canadian pop rockers Downhere have served their fans well down the years. As well as their five studio albums they've released an acoustic version of 'Wide Eyed And Mystified", a demo album offering 15 unreleased songs and an EP with six songs recorded live. Now comes this project, released only at summer festivals and online. 'Two At A Time' is a double CD with disc one offering two songs from Downhere's soon-to-be-released album. Both are good, "You're Not Alone" has a radio friendly hook while "The Song You Sing" has affecting vocals from the band's two lead singers Marc Martell and Jason Germain. The second disc features the b sides (which in these days of CD and download releases is a pretty meaningless phrase). Anyway, I particularly liked the tracks "Everything To Lose" and "Household Name" (about the effects of fame), also "Back To The Chorus", describing God as a song, his "quintessential soundtrack". If you can imagine an unlikely fusion of Casting Crowns, Daniel Amos, and even Steve Taylor you get some idea of the invention and creative sweep of this band.
