Portland-based E D Mondaine & Belief have been together for over seven years and travelled across America. This five-track digital only release opens with the traditional gospel sounding "Born Again" with its infectious, retro feel. Ballads, however, dominate the collection with songs like "Life Without You" and "Midnight Rider" reminding me of the smooth vocals of both Jessy Dixon and Luther Vandross in terms of style and delivery. The most enjoyable song here is the title track, where the vocals are more adventurous with a jazz feel and there is some excellent guitar. As it stands, 'Angels Watching Over Me' is enjoyable enough but rather too safe to stand out in the crowded gospel market.
