A bit of a hit on UCB Europe, this set features veteran Irish singer/songwriter Fran Frawley on songs which mix Celtic and pop influences in a fashion which is engaging and enlightening. A good blend of instruments, nicely arranged enhances his original songs and although on songs like the gentle "Sweet Love" and "The River", the sound is 70s, it is still a well conceived effort. Strong melodies combine with thoughtful lyrics on most of these songs though occasionally he descends into cliche and already well trodden musical paths. Two songs stand out for me, the first is the loop and guitar of "Lament" which is laden with atmosphere. Also imbibed with atmosphere is "Carry Me" which is so reminiscent of Iona that my wife argued with me that it was an Iona original being covered!! It's not! But it is excellent!
