Scotland-based Irishman Ford has been on the scene for years offering old-style country gospel for those who like the Old Old Story presented in an old, old style. On this album Gerry adds six new recordings to six older ones and comes up with 'Family Bible', an accomplished collection of tunes all about faith and family in the finest traditions of country music. I'm no expert on the scene but even I've heard of the Grand Ole Opry, and its star Jean Shepherd joins Gerry on one track, a medley of good old classics such as "Let's All Go Down To The River", "I'll Fly Away" and "I Saw The Light". Also, one tune ("Jesus I Need To Talk To You") was written especially for Gerry by Boxcar Willie. Recorded in Hendersonville, Tennessee, 'Family Bible' captures a musical clarity and technical authenticity which, coupled with Gerry's "perfectly country" vocal style, easily conjure up a gentle scene of guitars and rocking chairs on a porch somewhere way out west. Easy listening at its doggone finest, y'all.
