I was quite anxious to get this into the CD player when it arrived. Having always enjoyed singing traditional hymns in large choirs I was anticipating something quite uplifting. As soon as it started I discovered that acapella didn't just mean unaccompanied, but that all the hymns had been arranged for close harmony singing. Having listened to the album I have to say that describing it as "inspiring" is rather generous. Bluntly, it wasn't particularly. The album had previously been released under the title of 'Eventide'. It was produced, arranged and performed all by one chap, CCM veteran David Maddux. To produce such an album as a one man project is quite an achievement, but I find that the arrangements are no improvement over more traditional melodies. The album is also somewhat over-produced, probably to hide the fact that there is only one vocalist. I couldn't recommend this album to anyone other than a confirmed devotee of close harmony acapella.
