This six-piece folk, rock and Americana band from Nevada have been creating interest as an independent and have now been signed to a major CCM label for the big push into the national marketplace. A joyful acoustic guitar and banjo intro bursts forth on the album's opener "We Are Yours" which is a rhythmic expression of thanks to the Saviour. Powerful vocals backed by deft interplay between guitars, violin and an occasional burst of banjo are the musical foundation stone of I Am They while their literate lyrics avoid most of the clichés. "Your Love Is Mine" starts with a slow drumbeat supporting a single voice that gradually builds with layers of keyboard, handclaps and the bass guitar sustaining single notes across the track build to the sudden climax. The old hymn "The King Of Love" is given a folk-tinged makeover with a bounce in the new tune that would please Tigger and a hook to the newly added refrain would persuade even the most reluctant to join in and praise God. Lead vocals are split between Stephanie Kulla, Adam Palmer and Matthew Hein and the juxtaposition of their voices makes for some intricate and beautiful harmonies. Stephanie's phraseology puts in mind the folky timbre of Kate Rusby. but with an American accent. Watch out for these guys, they could go a long way.
