Jellybeans are a six-piece British children's ministry band who have a passion to see children and families worshipping Jesus together and this live offering - recorded at last year's Creation Fest in Cornwall - sees them attempt to fulfil that goal. Contained within are eight high energy songs performed in rudimentary fashion by the group's six members with established singer/songwriter and broadcaster Shell Perris taking on the lion's share of the vocal duties. This is very much a no frills affair with acoustic guitar, keys, drums and bass accompanying the singers and, whilst this approach works well enough, it doesn't provide too much scope for variety in sound or style. A range of faith-related themes are covered to help youngsters understand the basics of Christianity with the likes of the opener "Tell The World" providing an introduction to Jesus and the catchy "Love Is Patient" exploring that well-known 1 Corinthians 13 passage but, like the title track with its name-checking of Bible characters such as Noah, Moses and the Goliath-slaying David, it all feels like it's been done before. Jellybeans are keen to emphasise that to get the full effect of what they do one needs to purchase the DVD. I'll be reviewing that in due course.
