Jess is a singer/songwriter from Cambridgeshire who, after the release of her single "Arms Wide Open", received a bit of radio attention. This EP was released last year and her distinctive and attractive voice, with a small accompanying band, makes for an impressive debut. "Arms Wide Open" has lyrics about healing and restoration. "Fix My Eyes" is another good song and I like the unusual ornamentation of the vocal line and the double tracking that displays her crystal-clear voice. "Firm Foundation" is more pop-influenced with a heavier rhythm driven by an electric guitar. Her themes are personalised, if undemanding emotionally, and this release is an excellent start.
