Joi Cardwell has had some classic gospel-influenced garage tunes during the past five years or so. On one hand, these two remixes bring a breath of fresh air to what some people think has become an otherwise exhausted style of dance music. On the other had, perhaps it takes the "change just for the sake of change" route, and doesn't actually do the singer or the song justice. I can't decide, so I'll leave that up to the punter. What we do get is a synth-heavy, trancy backing to the slightly repetitive samples of Ms Cardwell's fine garage vocals. The keyboards are edgy, the beats are hard, but the voice is made to sound thinner and harsher than usual. I think this record will please some people no end, but will just get on other people's nerves! Listen before you buy. DJ Coopoid
