Nigerian-born singer/songwriter Jon Scott was a protégé of the late Fela Kuti and this single is his tribute to the African music legend on the 10th anniversary of his death. I know that much because the covering letter that came with this CD single says so; it's certainly not obvious from listening to it, or even from seeing Jon live - which I did a couple of weeks before the CD fell through my letterbox. If anything, I'd have imagined that Jon's main musical influence was James Blunt! He's certainly got the MOR soft rock styling down pat, and he sings with a similarly weird high-pitched voice. This is his attempt at the kind of song you'd hear endlessly if you were on a package holiday on the Costa del Whatever. And like most of those songs, it's not that appealing when heard in the context of a grotty British winter - despite the five remixes.
