South African worship leader Julius Magan has been releasing albums regularly since 1996. He ministers extensively throughout Southern Africa and is popular in the region. His high pitched, somewhat gritty voice has a certain charm to it and from the interviews on the free DVD is a most amenable chap. The songwriting here is shared equally between Julius and others and represents worship of the most intimate kind. Unfortunately the lyrics go beyond intimate to the land of cringe. They incorporate a remarkable collection of genre clichés that ought to be resisted in 21st century worship. "I love you, you love me, and that sets me free," "grace" rhyming with "face" and a rather chronic re-working of "Amazing Grace" (on "Just For You And Me") are just three examples. Mauritz Lotz's generally tight production fails to compensate. The arrangements are appropriate but as already indicated, many of the songs are weak. The bonus DVD includes a handful of songs from the album with a small congregation. Keyboard, guitar and backing tracks accompany, along with close-ups of people with hands raised and eyes closed. This CD will serve its purpose for some but for many others it's simply a sub-standard package.

Julius Magan has for years been one of my favorite Christian worshipers. His albums have carried me personally for many years through good and troubled times. This album "Beautiful" is just amazing. "Touch me Lord" and "Pour Yourself in Me" he sings in a duet with his son in awesome and so blessed!

Be blessed Julius! Keep it up.

Ps. where can I get or download the lyrics and guitar cords for Julius music?

In Nov 2006 I met Julius and his team as they ministered in our city. Julius, his two sons and keyboardist (Michelle Battaglia) were hosted by our church, so I was had the opportunity to interact with them in a 'non-performing' environment. What humble people; Holy Spirit filled worshippers of God.
What you see in their performances and hear in the music they make is not a performance but a glimpse of their love for and worship of God. What a blessing!

The reviewers comments really don't reflect the impact this man's music has had in my life and the lives of many people I know. It is music from the heart, for your soul not the commercially correct genre - perhaps the reviewer should reconsider his place in the music industry and go for somthing in a more commercial setting? I love Julius's music and pray that as many people as possible can experience it, please don't put them off by your comments!!

I heard Julius' music a few weeks ago for the first time. The comment from the reviewer - "They incorporate a remarkable collection of genre clichés that ought to be resisted in 21st century worship." Since when did words like I love you and you love me, and that's what sets me free - become cliche's? The words are truth. His music is certainly insipired and he does draw you into an intimacy with the Lord, that is sadly lacking into much of today's modern worship music. He does not sing 'at' you, you are fully participating in what he is doing. His songs sing about the Lord and His love for us and who He is in our lives and what we need from Him to do this. Come on guys, technical is not everything. The sound reproduction on the album I have is brilliant. You listen to this music with your heart not your head and ears only. Go Julius!

Julius Magan was new name to me when I picked up a copy of "Beautiful" in a sale around new year. The music is not exactly what I would go looking for but captivated me as a listener and drew me into worship. It is indeed annointed. I watched the DVD for the first time last night followed by the interviews. After discovering Julius' early influences were Keith Green and Andrae Crouch I needed no more convincing! Finally I watched the bonus DVD tracks the climax of which had to be "Pour Yourself in Me" the duet Julis shares with his son.

Quite simply Julius Magan is an awesome worshipper of God....I can't get hold his stuff in the UK which is sad. There's a very negative review that I don't think is shared by anyone who has been present to hear him live.
