Karen Clark Sheard has influenced many of today's top R&B and pop singers, as well as a generation of gospel singers, with her contribution as the youngest of those legendary matriarchs of crossover gospel, the Clark Sisters. Now a solo artist, Karen's passion and energy has by no means decreased, and the experience and maturity join the mix to help produce one of the most captivating gospel performances I have ever heard on CD. From the first phrase, the energy and excitement is bursting from the speaker cones like an un-caged lion, and Karen's passion ensures that you know she believes every word she sings when proclaiming "I never will see the righteous forsaken", "God has given us authority by the Spirit of the Lord", and "It's not over until God says it's over". Her dynamic range, pitch and tone are truly remarkable and the backing band have talent and style to match (especially the drummer, who's name is not mentioned on my pre-release). There's nothing particularly new or cutting-edge about the music here, but the unbridled abandon displayed is truly amazing. With this release the diva has absolutely lived up to her legendary status amongst the gospel cognoscenti and seems set to take gospel to the next level.
