Fantasize Neil Young being inspired by Bob Dylan's 'Slow Train Coming' to produce his own gospel album and you'll probably come up with this delightfully grungy set from Magnus Bodin who hails from Sweden. Not surprisingly, the English lyrics are extremely simplistic, yet somehow they contribute to the charm of the overall production and held my attention from the opening chords of "Light Green Grass" to the fading out of "I Say Thanks". Many of the songs were written after Bodin spent time working amongst the poor of Chicago with the Jesus People USA Community (which, of course, once spawned Glenn Kaiser's fondly remembered Rez Band). Hence, the album title and plenty of references to "lonely souls" and "no talk without action." Yet, the overall feel is one of joy as Bodin remembers the smiles of city children for whom every day must be a struggle. Treat yourself to an earful and give thanks to God for the blessings that you have. Here indeed is a magnum opus!
