At a time when fellow Destiny’s Child member Beyonce has entrenched herself as a superstar in the secular world, group mate Michelle seems happy to produce music which straddles between contemporary gospel and inspirational R&B. Based on what’s on here, she certainly isn’t going to have problems facing the congregation when she attends church. She seems preoccupied with love. Some songs like “Love Thang” are obviously about spiritual love, whilst others like “The Way Of Love” and “My Only Love Is You”, may well be aimed at her vast secular fans, as they could easily be about carnal love. The opener, “Purpose In Your Storm”, has the potential to cross over like Mary Mary’s “Praise Him”. It ends gloriously with Destiny’s Child’s impressive, inspirational, mid-tempo socio-conscious song “I Know”.
