More Than Rubies are American singers Christa Wells and Nicole Witt who have been performing together since 2007 and the combination of Christa's wistful, piano-driven pop and Nicole's country and bluegrass roots make for a captivating sound. Some of these tracks were originally released on an EP, 'Image Of God', of which the haunting "Dawn Of Grace" is a particular gem. Tempos are usually slow and there is an elegant lyricism which to me sounds like a cross between Nichole Nordeman and Sara Groves. Overall, 'More Than Rubies' is the kind of album perfect for times of personal meditation or for gentle listening moments. Even their cover of Redman's "10,000 Reasons" brings a fresh spark to a song that dozens of acts seem keen to record. Highly recommended.
