As the title suggests, 'No Man Is An Island' explores the theme of unity and community, as a positive counter to the individualism gripping our culture. Deacon brings his blend of R&B, soul and gospel to musically undergird the message, with all the grooves and urban tones entailed by that concoction. The London-based musician's vocals stray from husky bellows to jazz croons as each song requires. "U.N.I.T.Y" is the standout offering, a laid-back waltz of simmering sax that sails over the wave-like pulse of the bass. The title track, a re-working of a gospel song made famous by reggae's Dennis Brown, is complemented by the guest appearance of a DJ by the name of Scrooge. Though under 20 minutes in length, every moment of this feel-good eclectic EP contributes something to enjoy from this underrated and hard to classify musician.
