Alger's a much sought after songwriter in new country, having turned out major hits for some big names, eg, Nanci Griffith and Kathy Mattea. Many of his songs address basic issues of life very positively, some evidencing a solid faith. This glorious set contains the usual mix. There are superb "Christian" songs such as the title track which reminds us we are all in God's hands and the wonderful "Unanswered Prayers" with its wry, humorous look at the subject that raises a smile or two. There are also positive gems such as the breathtaking "A Few Good Things Remain" and "Like I Used To Do". Alger's style is uncluttered, acoustic country/folk; this album's a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
